Witney Business, Public Services & Media Students Work with LibFest

On 30th June 2014, whilst walking to school, there was a tragic car accident resulting in the death of 14-year-old, Liberty Baker. As a result of this, her family and friends set up a webpage and a campaign to gain 'Justice For Liberty'. They began to work alongside two charities, named Brake and SeaSaw and to organise fundraising events for these charities, one of them being LibFest.

Planning this event became an opportunity for the students at Abingdon and Witney College, including the TOBES faculty, to work alongside the committee as part of their studies. The courses that got involved were Media, Public Services and Business, as part of a joint project. Media and Business students produced the promotional materials for LibFest and Public Services students took part in marshalling work on the actual day of the festival.

Libfest brings Abingdon and Witney College lots of opportunities and spreads awareness of the charity. It will also give future students a chance to  build on their  skills as they take part in fundraising events and activities. This is really important because it gives students a sense of community as well as getting connected to the local area.

Libfest turned out to be a phenomenal event, through sponsors, donations, selling merchandise, CD's and entering the fun run, Libfest managed to raise a total of £11,250. This was spilt between Brake, See-Saw and Road Peace (£3,750 each).
The song written by TwistedStateOfMind, called "Forever" is now available to purchase on iTunes and Google Play. All proceeds will be donated to Brake, See-Saw and Road Peace.
